Club Congress has been Tucson's self-appointed center of cool since its inception in 1985. Probably the closest thing to an urban club experience in Tucson, what was once a collection of artists, musicians, punks, snobs and college kids is now the same, but with credit cards. The club is just one facet of the historic, turn-of-the-century Hotel Congress that also houses a hostel, cybercafe, the Tap Room, and The Cup Cafe. Club Congress books original, cutting-edge bands one or two nights a week with several eras of dance music filling the floor on other nights. Officially, the club holds only a few hundred patrons but the crowd can swell to more than five hundred, including the lobby space.
